In 2018 when Huawei applied for a patent with the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) for a smartphone with an under screen camera. The patent with Name title ‘Mobile terminal and display method thereof’ was published on August 29, 2019.
Huawei applied for a patent name "Structure, camera module and terminal device for concealing front camera" on March 18, 2019 and patent was published on April 14, 2020.
The patent states that the huawei’s model provides a structure for hiding a front camera, consists of a light guide plate that is kept between the covering glass and from camera, it includes a projection of the light guide plate that covers the notch perpendicular to the screen. The patent also describes the possibility of extending the transparent part to other places on the screen.
the structure also features light color sources that are kept on the side of the light guide plate, These sources can be used to emit light of specific colour on to the light guide plate.The patent shows how an under display front camera would work.
