The app allows user to determine when they’ve been in close contact with a postive covid-19 carrier.App was announced on 25th may 2020.
User will receive a notification informing them the time and date of contact.If the app is being downloaded by enough people,covid-19 can be tracked easily.to get a notification from the app you must stay within two meters of radius of an infected individual for more than 15 minutes.these details are handed to swiss server putting a single code into the app
Should such apps be trusted when it comes to privacy?
Swisscovid is designed to minimize the collection of data,so it cannot collect the user data and share it.if a user does a positive test for covid-19,individual can share where they during the days that might have been contagious.
App is currently in its early phase and is available only for a limited number of people such as workers at EPFL, members of swiss army and government employees .
Swisscovid app is same as arogya setu app which is being used in India.
Indian government is also asking citizens to download the Arogya Setu App.
